About us... Most people are interested in finding out about how 8 Beaks was started... well, it was actually a beautiful accident!  I was one of the unfortunate people who worked for a company called Enron... Yes, Enron!  At age 32, I lost my job in January 2002 (of 11 years) and decided to pursue a career as a chef, so I was planning on starting the French Culinary Institute in in New York City November that year. In-between looking for another job and starting school in November, I started making my 8 parrots (hense the name...

8 Beaks) toys that they would actually play with.  Having parrots of my own for 4 years, I was always frustrated with the toys on the market.  My birds would play with one part on the toy and the rest would sit there untouched.. not to mention I would always end up redesigning their toys because there seemed to always be something unsafe about it and the quality of the toy was unforgivable.    Anyway, I started gathering up a supply of stimulating toyparts, shared my designs with some feathered friends...and by pure accident, a specialty bird toy business was hatched a few months later.  I put the culinary institute on hold, and started 8 Beaks in November 2002!  It's funny how things turn out. Losing my job with Enron was a blessing in disguise... now I have the best job on earth!  I must say, it's a lot of hard work... but at the end of a long day, when a customer writes and tells me how happy their bird is, or how impressed they are with the quality... well it's all worth it!  Oh, and in case you are wondering, this very special business is run entirely by me.  I design all the toys, personally help all my customers, answer the phone calls, emails and ship your order... basically everything! 

Although 8 beaks was initially started from my living & dining room...  we quickly expanded the first year, moved to a commercial location in 2004, then proudly opened our Retail Boutique in September 2006.   You are more than welcome to stop by and do a little shopping, but please

leave you parrots at home.  As much as we would love to meet your Fid's, our Shop is strictly a NO-BEAKS zone... that way we can ensure your toys are made in an environment not exposed to other parrots or potential avian viruses or diseases.
